My husband had a qadruple bypass on the arterie in his right leg over a month ago; one incision has not healed, he is connected to a vacuum pump now but has had unrelenting pain; the dr's cannot seem to give him anything that will kill the pain; he cannot sleepbut for a few min. at a time; he is taking oxycodone/ acetiminfin 3.25 mg; I am very worried , he has talke d of shooting himselft to relieve the pain; is there anything that can be done to give him some relief? I am at my wits end and I know he is.

Dear patient,

Hyperbaric treatments have been used with some success in the treatment of non healing wounds, but truly, the main thing that has to be ruled out is an underlying infection in the surgical area, which may be the cause of unrelenting pain. I advise you to explore this possibility with your doctors; advanced imaging such as a CT or MRI are frequently needed to make sure, as swelling and redness are usually present and are both part of inflammation or infection.

Yours truly,
