Done Widal And Esr Test. What Are The Findings And Required Treatment?
Dear Sir, My baby age 23 months, sex-male now he effected may be typhoid fever. i already completed widal test(Blood) and ESR test. Test result are below ESR(WESTERGREN) -15 MM IN 1ST HR and WIDAL TEST REPORT TO-1.160 TH-1.160 AH-1.80 BH-1.80

pls chcek above mention report and confirm my baby actually effected typhoid or not? if effected typhoid at the time what can i do or what kind of treatment start Pls urgently confirm -thanks- Ripon
Hi Thanks for your query. As per reports it is widal positive and child is having typhoid. He needs course of antibiotic for which I suggest to to get him examined by pediatrician. In the meantime give plenty od fluids and soft bland diet so as to maintain hydration and nutrition. Hope that helps. God bless..

Widal test demonstrates the presence of somatic (O) and flagellar (H) agglutinins to Salmonella typhi in the patient's serum using suspensions of O and H antigens. Antigens of S. paratyphi A and S. paratyphi B are included in most commercial kits.
Traditionally, a positive Widal test is based on a fourfold rise in O agglutinins in repeated tests or a titre of > 1:160 as in your baby in a single test are taken as positive. However culture isolation of Salmonella typhi from blood and bone marrow is the standard diagnostic test to confirm typhoid fever. so you can get the culture done for confirmation.ESR is normal .
