Dry Cough, Short Breath, Sore Joint, Numb Fingers. Had One Thyroid Gland Removed. Lump On Other Thyroid. Thoughts?

I have a dry cough that is not from having a viral infection. It is worse at night. I also have shortness of breath on exertion or even if I am just sitting watching TV. I have also just developed a sore knee joint and also have numbness in my fingers of both hands. I have had this numbness for a few years now. Approximately 14 years ago I had one of my thyroid glands removed due to a benign lump growing on it. My other thyroid has a lump at the base of it now too, but I have chosen not to have my thyroid removed.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

You have mentioned multiple problems. I will talk about each one one by one.
Dry cough which is worse at night is probably not due to infection.
Dry cough has to be suppressed as it causes discomfort and disturbed sleep.
Cough syrups are available which have soothing effect on the throat. These syrups do not have any drug, they have ingredients which have soothing effect on the throat mucosa.
Shortness of breath on exertion is can be due to anemia, lung disease, etc.
Soreness of knee joint could be due to trauma to the knee joint, joint infection or inflammation.
Presence of numbness in fingers can be due to disease process affecting the nerves.
You need to visit your physician for clinical examination of the knee joint, hands and fingers, lungs, etc.
Appearance of swelling in the thyroid gland needs to be investigated.
It can be just a non-neoplastic lesion like cyst, colloid goitre, benign nodule or it could be neoplastic lesion.
A thyroid scan is a must.
The character of the swelling can only be determined after investigation.
Whether the gland has to be removed, will be decided by the result of the investigation.
So, consult your doctor for examination of the thyroid lesion and for further work up.

Thanks and take care
