Dry Hacking Cough, Had Asthma Attacks. Give Lortab Or Percocet?

yea my dad has a very terrible cough a dry hacking cough.. had it this is 3rd day I no from past with my asthma attacks that if I get that cough he's got I could take a lortab or a Percocet 5/325 and break it up and put in some hot water, drink it, and do it again in about 8-12 hours and it suppressed my cough and loosened my cough up* what do you think??

Hi thanks for your question.
What I can understand from you question is your Dad is having terrible cough and he is not asthmatic. You want to give him crushed tablet of percoet. There is no logic in this mode of treatment. percocet contains Oxycodone which is opioid analgesic (pain killer) and acetaminophen which is analgesic and antipyretic. This medicine is used as strong pain killer and not for suppressing cough .Although this Oxycodone can suppress cough as it is opioid and all opioids has the side effect of suppressing cough. Consult a physician who may examine your Dad to determine cause of such a terrible cough and he/she may prescribe him appropriate treatment.
