Dull Pain In Rib Cage, Back Pain, Feeling Stiff In The Morning. Muscle Relaxants Used. Treatment?
I have dull pain to the touch on the of right rib cage extending to a small area of back. Have had pain for about four months. Have seen primary care physician twice and have prescribed muscle relaxaxants that hasn t taken pain away. Feels stiff in morning, hurts more after sitting, feels much better after using hot tub or when I m walking or moving about. Any ideas.
Hi, You have possibly got a problem with your spine. This may be facet joint stiffness or a disc prolapse. The muscles may be in spasm due to the underlying problem. I suggest you discuss the need for an MRI with your doctor. In the meantime, paracetamol and ibuprofen may help the pain. A TENS (transcutaneous nerve stimulator) could be considered as a non-drug method of pain management. Exercises to strengthen your core muscles could be suggested by a physiotherapist. I hope this is of help. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger MBChB FRCA
