During Child Birth, Injected Epidural. Placenta Burst. Obgyn Said Child's Heart Slowing Down. Did C-sec. Had Fever, Hematoma. Side Effect?

I am a 38 year old who had given birth to my son in October 2011..after my epidural was injected about 10-15 minutes later my placenta burst and I heard something click in my body..I proceeded to have the resident check me and she said I was passing bloodclots very fast and she proceeded to run and get the OBGYN who came in and checked me. My son's heart monitor had went from 125and was rapidly dropping to 105..97.86 to 72 she informed that she would have to do an emergency Csection..they left me open in the OR for over 45 min and I could not even speak because a air mask was on my face but I could hardly breathe..the OBGYN informed me that they were sorry I was not sewn up yet and that they had not counted the instruments ahead of time so they were waiting for the radiologist to bring up the "scan machine" to make sure they did not drop anything inside of me..I ended up staying inthe hospital for 5 days and after I was home with my newborn on the 5th day I came down with a 104 degree fever which I could barely stand up..I was admitted to the ER of another hospital close to my house where I was in a stretcher for almost 16 hours..they finally ran tests and told me I had a hematoma inside my stapled up incision..since then I have had numerous health problems and am wondering if this is common..would this all be side effects from the anathesiologist or was it the OBGYN's fault

Hello
Thanks for your query.
It was nobody's " fault " but an unfortunate series of events.
The wound site haematoma is a common complication following any surgery, and it is unfortunate that you had that.
Also, the OT instruments have to be counted in before any surgery, and because they proceeded in your case in a dire emergency, they probably forgot to do it.
The prolonged time you were left open could be one factor in the healing of the wound.
However, long term health problems would not be associated with this event, particularly as you havent clarified what problems you are facing.
Take care.
