ECG Showing Borderline Left Axis Deviation. What Does It Mean? On Amlodac
Hi, I have been having ECG checks every alternate year or so for the past 25 years or so with no abnormality shown on the chart.I have also had regular lipid profile all this time with almost perfect results. But a few months ago my ECG showed borderline left axis deviation and otherwise normal result. What does this mean?.I am 59 years old and have been on regular blood pressure medication(amlodac 5mg) for the last couple of years or so.
Dear Friend

Borderline left axis deviation in itself does not carry any meaning. it just shows that mean of all electrical activity of your heart is directed to slightly leftward. More important issue is
what other findings were there in the ECG? if it was otherwise normal and you also do not have any problem, specifically not shortness of breath or chest discomfort on exercise, using stairs etc. if you do not have any clinical problem and your ECG does not shows anything else. relax. you can discuss the findings of ECG with your physician on next visit. but if you have any symptom or ECG has more findings, please consult your cardiologist.
one more thing, this idea of getting an ECG done every year on your own is not good. please see your physician before you get any test done.
sincerely
Left axis deviation means that more of the 'current' or force of the heart is on the left side. It usually occurs when there is enlargement of the left side of the heart. It can vary in severity.
Hypertension,is one of the common causes of this condition .
Treatment involves control of any risk factors for heart disease such as your blood pressure, blood sugars and cholesterol. Other risk factors are smoking and inactivity.
Symptoms of heart disease are chest pain on activity, shortness of breath, palpitations.
I hope this helps
