Ear Is Hurting After Tympanometry Test. Negative Pressure Is Causing Eardrum To Retract. Will It Go Away?
I just had a hearing test on monday and they performed what I believe is a Tympanometry test. I had no pain going in and now for 3 days my left ear hurts. When I took my son to the pediatrician today, I asked him to look at me ear and he said the negative pressure caused my eardrums to retract. It's the 3rd day, will this go away. It's really painful.. Thanks. Lisa
hello, This happens rarely. You must take oral and nasal decongestants. You should also take chewing gums to chew which will open up the eustachian tube a tube behind the nose that connects to the middle part of ear. Avoid air travel. This blockage takes 2-3 weeks to settle down but if the pain worsens then you need to see an ENT specialist and take antibiotics.
