Ear Pain, Done Root Canal, Swelling, Lump On Body, Infected Tooth. On Antibiotics. Suggest?
STARTED WITH EAR PAIN, PRESCRIBED ANTIBIOTIC, WENT AWAY. THEN, TOOTH PAIN ON SAME SIDE(LEFT) SO DENTIST PRESCRIBED ANTIBIOTIC AND SAID TOOTH WAS INFECTED AND NEEDED ROOT CANAL. TOOK MED, WENT BACK TEN DAYS LATER, HAD ROOT CANAL. 4 DAYS LATER ENDED UP IN EMERG WITH SEVERE EAR PAIN, BACK ON ANTIBIOTICS. TWO WEEKS LATER, SEVER TOOTH PAIN AGAIN SO DENTIST PUT ME ON TWO DIFF ANTIBIOTICS, GRAM POS, AND GRAM NEG. FACE STARTED SWELLING AND NOW HAS A HARD LUMP/MASS, NOTICABLE. LUMP THERE TWO WEEKS NOW, BEEN BACK TO EMERG DUE TO PAIN AND WAS ON IV ANTIBIOTICS AND NOW A FEW DAYS LEFT AND NO SIGN OF IMPROVEMENT. SWELLING IS A BIT MORE

Hi,
The ENT dr prescribed antibiotic for ear pain. He has not told you what was the problem in the ear.The dentist has diagnosed it as infected tooth. So after a course of antibiotic, after pain subsided Root canal Treatment was done not followed by a Cap on that tooth. The ear pain might have been a referred pain from the tooth. OK. So far every thing is fine. Now your problem is intolerable pain and swelling and you are put on IV antibiotic. The most probable reason is blocked root canal infection of that particular tooth. So once pain subsides consult dentist and that tooth to be removed (tooth extraction). That will avoid the recurrence of pain.

Swelling post root canal treatment may be due to-infected pulp remaining within the tooth or due to faulty instrumentation procedures undergone.
Get a detailed clinical as well as x-ray evaluation done by a dentist.
Tooth HAS to be either re-rctreated or extracted depending on severity of infection.
Take complete course of amoxycillin along with analgesics.
Meanwhile,maintain oral hygiene well.
