Effects Of Dexamphetamine On Your Unborn Baby

Hello, I take 10-12 dexamphetamine sulfate 5mg tablets a day for a sleeping disorder. I m 21 and have had no other medical history apart from asthma as a child. my partner and I are trying for a baby what are the effects my tablets can have on the baby. I was told when I first started the medication that there is no sign of them harming the baby?

Hello there, i was wondering how you went with finding about dexamphetamine whilst pregnant. I take it for helping with my depression 20mg daily as well as antidepressant and am thinking about falling pregnant and still taking it even though there probably are risks. For me to be without it would be worse. What information and advice did u get. I know for narcolepsy they say that if it is required then to try to take the lowest dose possible. There would be many woman who abuse street amphetamine and fall pregnant and still have "healthy" babies. It could possibole increase the risk of misscarriage and may contribute to low birth weight baby and also might contribute to increased blood pressure during later stage of pregnancy which can be a problem anyway. I guess they would monitor you more closely for those things.

This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Infants born to mothers dependent on this medication may have birth defects, be born too soon (premature delivery) and have low birth weight. They may also have withdrawal symptoms. Tell your doctor immediately if you notice possible mood changes, agitation, or unusual tiredness in your newborn. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
