Electrical Shocks When Walking, Numb Hands After Using Computers For Long. Have Degenerative Disc Disease. Any Ideas?

I have recently noticed when walking, I will have little electrical "shocks" down my arm to my fingertips. I also notice that when I sit at the computer too long, my hand will fall asleep. I have had pretty bad heartburn for about a week now. And the good news is that I quit smoking 2 weeks and 3 days ago. I was about a pack a day smoker for the last 9 months, less than a pack before that. I am 45 years old and I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my lower back with 2 collapsed discs in 2009. I don't have health insurance and am currently unemployed.

welcome to HCm,

your problem I think is due blood vessel problem. you have decreased blood supply to your spinal cords of in the upper cervical region. And that can be the same reason by which you had a degenerative disease of lower spine another reason can be you are having an degenerative disorder of spine. But your condition has to be evaluated by a neurophysicist and treatment can be taken accordingly. The degenrative changes are not reversal so its better to consult some neurophysician as fast as possible and begin the treatment. Also you have to do some physiotherapy exercises to that it can improve the blood supply of that part.

with regards,

Dr Ankur Shah
