I experience severe pain in my feet and arms most of the day....however, it is significantly worse when I first wake up. At first, I thought it was arthritis....but I recently heard that thyroid issues can also cause similar symptoms. I am 50 years old female.
Thank you for asking on HCM! I do understand your concern and i will try to give you some more information related to your symptoms. Some of the symptoms caused by hypothyreosis are swelling and ache due to compression of the nerves of the hands and feet. These symptoms are also typical for arthritis so both of the diagnoses need to be verified. You didn't mention any other problem; feeling sleepy, low heart rate, constipation ect, that could suggest us more for a thyroid problem. Anyway, if you were a patient at my clinic i would recommend you to do some examinations for the thyroid function (TSH,FT4,FT3) and also for rheumatoid arthritis. May be they coexist. Hope i gave you some useful information.
Kind regards, Dr.M.Guni
