Experiencing Pain And Numbness In Penis And Scrotum.Suggest Medication

A male friend of mine has been having problems over the last several days with upper thigh pain that is now concentrating in his groin area. He has a hx of lower back problems and BHP. Today he experienced his penis and scrotum going numb while in a sitting position. He has worked in the oil fields for many years and is out on a job now. He is 61 yrs old and I am a little worried about him as he is not a complainer. As long as he rests or is sitting he does not feel the pain in his groin but once he is up and moving again it comes back sharply. When he lays down he can feel the pain but it becomes dull. Is this something that we should be concerned with?

With this presentation, I think the problem is resulting from compression of the nerves that lead to this area. Given his age and a medical history of an enlarged prostate, I think it is necessary to rule out prostate cancer which easily gives metastasis at the level of the vertebral column. This can compress the nerves. Clinical assessment is needed coupled with some tests like prostate specific antigen (PSA), ultrasound of prostate, biopsy of prostate, magnetic resonance image or CT scan. In my opinion, I would suggest that he sees a urologist for proper assessment.
