Experiencing Swollen Lymph Node On Neck, Under Jaw, Painful, Night Sweats. Taken Z-pack. What Is The Cause?

I have been experiencing painful swollen lymph nodes, located in the right side of my neck, just under the jaw line. In addition to the swollen nodes, I have been experiencing pain when I swallow, jaw pain, and ear irritation. I have seen a doctor and received antibiotics (Z- pack). I am now on day 4 of the dosage, the symptoms I have been having are not alleviating in the slightest. Subsequently, the symptoms, I am experiencing, seem to be worsening. I am beginning to have difficulty when opening my mouth wide to eat and am having excessive night sweats. What could be the cause of these symptoms, which I am experiencing. Thank you for your time and consideration, Gretchen

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
If I were your treating doctor for this case of enlargement of lymph node , I would come up with these possibilities , these includes.
1 Septic pharyngitis this is most common cause of swelling in the throat and jaw angle . Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical as well clinical history of illness by an E N T specialist .
2 May be tubercular lymphadenitis , diagnosis can be confirmed by biopsy of enlarged lymph nodes and clinical history.
3 May be due to secondary infection due to teeth ( tooth ) infection . As sometimes impacted tooth got infection and this infection involves whole area causing swelling and difficulty in swallowing.
Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical examination by a dental surgeon .
In my opinion get in C B C as well E S R ( blood ) examination and consult an E N T expert .
Good luck. Dr. HET
