My mother (65 yrs age) has multiple metastasis in brain without known primary. she started her treatment one month back . She has received palliative whole brain radiation therapy treatment at Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata (admitted on23 December - discharge on 09.01.2012)Doctors have advised against further radiation/chemotherapy. She is now at home receiving supportive treatment at home. She is completely bedridden, her vision has deteriorated, have trouble swallowing. She is a diabetic patient patient (her suger level is fluctuating all the time) and high pressure. She sometimes feel extreme cold at night. her scalp was itching for one week and then after treatment her itching has subsided but from last week she has acute itching all over her body (24 hrs.) and ear irritation. She is being given insulin (Human Actrapid 40IU/ml) and other prescribed drugs, they are: telma 40 (for pressure), monotrat 10 mg, eption 100 mg(thrise daily), Decmax 4mg (for itching). Sir, my query is what shall we do to give her relief from this constant itching.

hello..
when was the last you have got her blood work up done?
there can be a lot of causes for itch..
diabetes
liver problems
drug allergy or other allergies..
these re the areas i suspect in your mother..
its good if you can get her examined by a doctor and get necessary blood workup done..avoid allergens like dust etc..
for immediate relief give her some antihistaminics..levocetrizine would suffice..

hope my answer helps you
if you have any more queries i would be happy to answer..
