Experiencing Thrush Like Symptoms, Burning Sensation. Had Penicillin Earlier, Stopped. Any Other Causes ?
Good morning,
I have been experiencing thrush like symptoms for the last 3 days. Below I feel a burning sensation but not massively itchy. I've had thrush once before when taking repeated doses of penicillin.
My concern is I am not nor have been taking any medication and I have been with my partner for 5 years.
Hi and thanks for the query, Thrush , though sexually transmitted at times, could arise in persons not because of sexual transmission. It might important to note that the germ causing this symptoms lives on the body normally. Certain changes in the body s environment could lead to overgrowth of this organism, It is therefore important first of all to exclude diabetes and other causes of immune depression like HIV. Penicillin is not the treatment for thrush. This is a fungus and the treatment is based on anti fungal drugs. A culture and sensitivity testing to detect specific species and drug that shall help in eliminating the organism to avoid resistance is the best practice. Consulting your primary physician for evaluation and management. thanks and kind regards. Bain LE, MD
