cervical smear for cytology results gross: received one smear microscopic description: smear shows very few superficial and intermediate squamous cells, endocervical cells and squamous metaplastic cells with inflammatory cell infiltrate. kindly repeat smear. please explain

hi..welcome to healthcare magic..superficial,intermediate squamous cells, endocervical cells are normal features of cervical smear. squamous metaplastic cells occur as a response to persistent inflammation. inflammatory cell infiltrate suggests that there is infection, which will subside if treated with antibiotics. you can repeat the smear after a course of antibiotics. good luck.
