i have questions in regards to prednisone 30mg i take daily for pancreatic transplant i had four weeks ago. I do notice severe facial swelling also referred to as moon face, and although this is bothersome i have a question in regards to some pain without injury or explanation that started on my right lateral foot with pain only when pressure or exertion is applied. i did not hurt my foot and it is very painful to walk, no bruising and or skin breakdown is seen. it did feel like this was muscle related due to some stretching of foot can cause some discomfort. is this common with this medicaion
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Corticosteroid i.e.prednisolone 30 mg is very high dose ,but it is necessary for you , for pancreatic transplant. The steroid develops reabsorption of calcium from bones for regulation of calcium level in blood. When there is depletion of calcium ,the density of bones reduces and they become weak & fragile , so you feels pain due to exertion and walking. The other side effect of steroid is fluid retention , hence there is swelling over face. In my opinion consult your treating ( surgeon ) and get his opinion. Good luck. Dr. HET
