Fall On The Back, Muscular Pain With Strained Back. X-ray Shows Anterior Wedging Of D12 Vertebra. Help?
I had a fall and fell of a stool on my back. (I am 54 years old) There is pain and stiffness . Initial exmination shows no bone injury. The pain i feel is mainly muscular like a strained back. The X Ray had teses findings X Ray of LS Spine (AP/LAT) Osteophystes are seen along the enplates of vertebrae Intervertebral disc spaces are well maintained Rest of vertebral bodies are normal in height and morphology Prevertebral soft tissues also appear normal Bony Spinal Canal is normal Anterior wedging of D12 vertebra is seen
I will advise you MRI spine and if there is any cord compression with lower limb weakness then you may need decompression. If anterior wedge of D12 is unstable then you may need fixation.
You need decompression if fracture is compressing spinal cord. Decompression is necessary if neurological deficit or bladder involvement is there.
If there is no neurological involvement then conservative brace or rest is sufficient If minimal wedge compression just bed rest is sufficient. Later on follow rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
