Fall On The Bottom, Got Unbearable Pain In The Spine Instantly. Chances Of Internal Damage?

Hi I slipped and fell on laminate flooring last night and landed on my bottom sitting upright. instantly the pain in my spine was unbearable and the pain also went into my stomach . I managed to get to bed and slowly am getting more mobile although the pain in my back and stomach is still there. I am taking co-codamol and distralfenic could i have done any internal damage and go see a doctor or wait to see if pain eases.

hi there, usually a fall on the bottom causes injury to the coccygeal bone which explains tha pain in your back. You may get an x-ray taken tho' there is no definitive treatment for coccygeal fractures. You could use painkillers and may use a doughnut pillow or a cushion to sit on till the acute injury subsides. Internal damage is unlikely but you may visit the ER to get yourself evaluted to rule out any internal injury. Take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Dr. Praveen Tayal's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain in the lower spine could be related to an internal damage to the spine or the intervertebral disc space. An MRI of the spine is needed to identify the exact damage that has been caused by the fall.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. You can consult me again directly through my profile URL http://bit.ly/Dr-Praveen-Tayal
