Fallen Several Times Due To Dizziness Because Of Blood Pressure Medicines. Visit To Neurologist Required?

My 90 yr old father has been having dizzy spells and fallen several times which he blames on his blood pressure medicine. He is currently on metropol. The doctor has changed the rx several times and they all seem to have the same effect. Is this unusual for a 90 yr old. Should we see a neurologist? Thank you.

Hi , in my opinion you should visit a neurologist and also cardiologist to change BP medication. There are many reasons for dizzy spells in elderly and it needs to be evaluated. Apart from side effect of metoprolol other reasons could be
Hypoglycaemia- low sugar
Orthostatic hypotension
Brief spell of arrhythmia -irregular beating of heart .are common among others.
In my opinion you should request your cardiologist to change the BP medication. There are many other drugs available with which there are less chance of dizziness. Hope this helps. Take care.
