Hi ! Good afternoon. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

The first thing you should concentrate is towards reduction in your weight. You might have to consult a dietician and a physician on this. Our legs take the total load of our body, and so they ache.

In your case it is more so because of previous history of trauma and delayed healing time. The lymphatics and venous return might have been disrupted during that period along with fibrosis, and so they can not drain well the fluid back when standing for long periods of time. This leads to the swelling which will be relieved if you keep your legs elevated on a pillow while you are not working. In case of pain, you might have to take some anti inflammatory drug temporarily. While working you may wear some kind of pressure garments for both the lower limbs, which may assist in draining gravitated the fluid back.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef
