Fell While Playing Football. Landed Rib First On Arm. Have Pain And Hard Lump. Cure?

Hi

I recently was playing football and when going for a header I landed rib first onto my arm, since them I have been getting a lot of pain! Breathing, sneezing coughing etc. I know from previous experience that this is more than likely a cracked rib, however this is a lot more painful than previous times and the area now has a hardish lump when it hurts, any idea? Hi !

Thanks for your query.

It seems that you have suffered traumatic injury to your ribs most probably resulting in fracture . The hard lump that you are talking about is the swelling (edema) due to injury at the rib.
You are advised to visit an orthopaedic surgeon and get an x ray chest done to rule out fracture. You should seek medical advice at the earliest.

If there is any query you are free to ask .
Wish you a good health.
Take care.

Hello and thanks for posting your query on HCM,

There is possibility of sustaining fracture of the rib after the injury.
However, a X-ray of the chest is needed to confirm or rule out the diagnosis.
The management of the rib fracture is rest and pain killers.
Pain during breathing, coughing and sneezing suggests that there is involvement of the pleura. This can be due to the injury involving the pleura.

Consult an orthopedician for clinical examination and relevant investigations.

Thanks and take care.

Hello.Broken rib or rib injury without fracture both cause severe pain.Although the treatment is similar in
both diseases; is necessary a torax radiography for know if there is fracture( the patient suffers pain a longer period of time). You must go to your doctor to examine and request thorax radiography.
Possible complications of rib fracture such as pneumothorax or pneumonia also are diagnosed with radiography. Now you must drink lots of water, take analgesics(for example diclofenac)and breathing exercises.I wish you good health.
