Fever, Abdominal Pain, Had Two Hernia Surgeries. Any Suggestions?

Hi, since this morning I ve had low grade fever, chills, some nausea due to fever. What is also concerning me, is I have abdominal pain , around my belly button area, and surrounding it. I have had two hernia surgeries a few years ago, but am puzzled as to how hernia would cause fever, if that s the cause. Any suggestions? Pam T.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this fever. Hernia definitely will not cause fever unless it has becomes complicated and in this case, there would be severe pains and other symptoms. I will suggest that you get consulted for the cause of this fever to be identified and treated accordingly. This can be sorted out by your primary care physician.

I hope this helps and I wish you well.

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

Sorry for your trouble and I understand your concern but be rest assured that the symptoms you are currently presenting are not related to your previous hernia repairs. After a hernia is repaired, there are usually few complications and if you did not have an immediate post-operative fever, then it would not occur some years after the operation.
What you are experiencing is most likely an enteric fever/typhoid or maybe a urinary tract infection or maybe a blood-borne infection such as malaria (if you are in an endemic zone) or stomach flu etc.
You will need to see a doctor who can get your examined, run some lab tests such as CBC, CRP, Widal (for typhoid), stool exams etc and then provide you with treatment according to the findings he achieve.
Other causes of low grade fever exist, but they are rare and depending on what your doctor finds.

Hope this helps
