Fever, Headache, White Spots In Throat, Swollen Tonsils, Ear Infections. Strep, Mono Test Negative. Causes?
I have had a fever and headache for about 11 days now. I went to the doctor and they said I had two really bad ear infections and tested me for mono and strep . Both came back negative. They figured out it was a viral infection and did not prescribe me any medicine. Now I have white spots on my throat and my tonsils are very swollen, my right tonsil is touching my uvula . And I still have Ear infections, headaces, nausea , and a fever. What s going on?
Your words suggest you are having tonsillitis.Your tests for bacterial infection came negative ... so either there might be bacterial superinfection over previous viral infection or there might be false negative results.Repeat the tests and also get a throat swab culture sensitivity testing done. Some blood investigations may be needed.
Dont wait for the culture reports and start Coamoxiclav 625mg thrice daily for five days.Depending on the culture sensitivity reports the antibiotics may be modified if needed.
Take paracetamol 500 mg twice daily for three days and thereafter sos.
Take Vit C 500 mg once daily for a week.
Do warm saline gargling four times daily for five days.
There are chances of ear infection spreading to meninges causing meningitis. So be careful and get a medical check up from an ENT specialist.Dont self medicate without prescription.
Update here how you stay.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
