Fish Bone Stuck In Throat. Had Sore Throat. Difficult To Swallow. How To Cure?

Hello. Back in January 2013 we were on holidays in Costa Rica and I had a fish bone get stuck in my throat. The bone seems to have been swallowed but I have had a sore throat that is getting progressively worse to the point where it is very diificult and painful to swallow anything. Also one side of my face is quite painful. Is it possible there is an infection and if so what can I take for it? Thank you

Hello, and welcome to HCM!

It is possible that the pain in your throat is due to an infection. However, because it has been several months since the incident with the fish bone, it is less likely related to that (although still possible). It sounds like your sore throat is becoming quite severe, and that you are not having any symptoms (such as cough, runny nose, congestion, sneezing) that would suggest and upper respiratory infection (like the common cold). I would recommend seeing your doctor, who can determine if you have a bacterial infection in your throat, which is usually treated with antibiotics such as amoxicillin or others.

The pain in your face is strange, and doesn't sound related to the incident with the fish bone. I recommend discussing this with your family physician.

I wish you good health, and thank you for posting on HCM!
