Fluid Draining From Ears For 5 Years, Started After Allergy Attack. Family History Of Hearing Loss. Recommendations?
Hello Dr. Grief, Thanky you for considering my concerns. I have clear fluid draining from my ears most every night. This has been going on for five years. I recall it starting after an allergy attack which consisted of a stuffed head and drippy nose after a visit to a museum. (I have suffered with hay fever since my twenties and am now 47 with fewer hay fever symptoms the previously.) I often find the TV's volume irritatingly loud even though the other family members find it comfortable. I sometimes have trouble understanding/foucsing on one person's conversation if there is a lot of other noise in the room. My mother's family has a history of hearing loss (4 out of 9 sublings), so I worry that my symptoms may be a precurser.
is there any history of head injury? because head injury can cause a condition called csf otorrhea. u take that fluid for culture and sensitivity. if any bacterial infection it should settle down with proper antibiotic use. ur hearing problem and family history of deafness all are indications to go for audiometric evaluation to find out what sort of hearing problem you have.
