Frequent Loose Motion And Loss Of Appetite. Have Pacemaker For Mitral Valve Regurgitation. What Is The Cure?
My mother(90 years old) have started to have loose bowel movement quite frequently for a few months now. Mucous is also present. She looks tired and her movements are getting slow. Before this condition started, she moves around quite good and independent. She does not have good appetite to begin with, due to her heart medications (I think); now she is afraid to eat fearing diarrhea. She does have a pacemaker for Mitral Valve Regurgitation. I need your advice.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vidya KR's Response
Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Mucus in stool can occur with a variety of intestinal infections that cause severe diarrhea. In more-serious conditions — Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and even cancer — mucus in stool may be bloody or accompanied by abdominal pain. As she has loose stools and mucous in stool, better get stool examination done. Give her more fluids to maintain hydration. electrolyte powder required to maintain electrolyte imbalance. Presence of infection may need antibiotic treatment.
Hope this helps you.
Regards
