Frequent Urination. No Help With Medicines. What Could It Be?

I am 20 years old. I am urinating frequently and sometimes very little comes out. I went to the doctor and he assumed since i was 20 it was an std. I took the medication i was prescribed and have seen no results or change in the way my bathroom trips are going. Im in no pain, just uncomfortable having to pee every 5 minutes. Please help!

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

I advise you to give urine sample for complete urine examination, culture and sensitivity.

It is looking like a urinary tract infection.

But diabetes has to be rule out by looking for sugar in urine sample and blood sugar levels.

Continue the medication as advised and consult the doctor if there is no improvement.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

General & Family Physician Dr. Shoaib Khan's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

In my opinion, this sounds more like a urinary tract infection (UTI), but of course this will have to be confirmed. No doctor should assume a diagnosis, without being conpletely sure about the clinical presentation and have laboratory reports to back his diagnosis.

In your case, your doctor has assumed such a scenario due to your age, and I suppose because you must be sexually active.

I would advise a urine analysis, which will very clearly help in finding the infection, which is the most likely cause.

Once the infection has been diagnosed, treatment will include antibiotic coverage specific to the kind of infection you have, pain management medication (if you are experiencing any pain; and a urine alkalizer which will help relieve you of your symptoms.

In the meantime, please abstain from all forms of sexual contact as this can aggravate your infection (if you are sexually active) and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
