Got A Fracture On The Jaw, Ended Up Like A Long Crack. CT Scan Is Attached. Can Eat Normal. Have Momentary Pain. Time To Heal?

Two months ago, my brother got a fracture on the right lower jaw (mandible). However, the fracture didn't separate the bone in two peaces, but ended up like a long crack.

The CT scan images at the following link represent the situation after one month of the accident:

My brother is able to open his mouth and eat normal food without any pain, but only on the opposite side in his mouth. He feels strong momentary pain when the upper teeth on his right side touch the bottom ones. Also, when he smiles, his mouth line gets curved on the side a bit.

Estimating by the CT scan images, is it possible that the jaw can heal itself over time with no consequences at all? Could the two parts of the cracked jaw glue together without any need of surgery or additional procedure, and how long will it take? Or, the crack will get filled up over time and his jaw will end up symmetrical causing some future problems?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hello ,

thanks for writing to us

If after two months if there is no pain relief then you should go for surgery for fixation of mandible.
You can choose plating or wiring.
