Got Off Rocephin, Having Swollen Hands, Eye With Itching, Rash Spots On Several Parts Of Body. What To Do?

my husband just got off of Rocephin (sp) for cellulitus. He has been off of it since tuesday, PICC line removed. He now has swollen hands with itching from the inside out. But also has a swollen eye and big rash spots on several parts of his body. Taking Benedryl and gets little relief.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,

I read your query and understood your concern. It sounds like a case of urticarial hives to me. Usually any underlying infection in the body may trigger urticaria, in your husband's case it looks like cellulitis provoked it.

Was it a diffuse cellulitis ? If yes and hands are still swollen , infection might not yet have fully resolved. Consult your physician again to get a course of oral antibiotics prescribed.

As for itching, give your husband anti allergics like cetrizine / loratadine twice daily. It may also bring down swelling a little.

Hope I helped.
