Groin Lymph Node
Hi my four year old son had a utlrasound and it says
palpable lump left groin is represented by a superficial lymph node measuring 9mm. There are three smaller slightly more distal lymph nodes present.
What does this mean????

The presence of inguinal lymphnodes may occur due to many clinical reasons. It may be an acute infection, a chronic infection or a neoplastic condition.
Lymphnodes have an inherent protective function in the body and enlarged lymphnodes signify the ability of the body to fight disease.
Coming to your son's condition, it would be important to know if he has pain and tenderness in the area. If it is associated with pain and is sudden in occurrence, it might be an acute infection and will subside on antibiotics.
If there is no pain and several other lymph nodes get enlarges in due course, associated with weight loss and low grade fever, a chronic infection or neoplastic condition should be ruled out. This can be done by a small needle aspiration test (FNAC).

Hi,
lymph node size near groin upto 1.5 cm is normal & other sites upto 1cm is normal.
If any wound in the leg, any worm infestation(larva form enter through skin of lower leg region) can cause lymph node swelling.
Avoid walk with bare foot.
Dont let him play in water.
Look for any wound over thigh or leg.
