Had Afib. Feeling Tired. Echocardiogram Showing PFO In The Upper Chamber Of Heart And Mitral Aortic Valve Leakage. Need Surgery?
I m a 49 year old 130 lb 5 5 very active woman. I own a equestrian farm and teach and train show horses. I ve had afib since 2006 but its not often enough to have had more tests. In the past 6months I ve been extremely tired and the afib has been happening alot last Sunday I passed out at a horse show and was taken to the hospital. They did a echocardiogram and found I have PFO in the upper chamber of my heart and my mitral and aortic valves are leaking mild to moderate. am I a candidate for surgery?
Hi,since you have Afib with evidence of PFO You are at risk of embolisation, hence you consult your Cardiologist and discuss the feasibility of percuatneous PFO occluder device-which is non-surgical procedure. Also as of now your Mitral and Aortic valve don't need any intervention at present but clarify with your Cardiologist whether its rheumatic infestation of these valves-if so you need penicillin injection prophylaxis.Hope this information is useful to you.Take care and wish you good health.
