General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
A case of COPD may not able to sleep in a lying down position, and even in a sitting posture it is difficult to sleep because of Broncho spasm producing respiratory distress. During the respiratory distress mild sedation can be given. He was confused and refusing to eat, but at the same time he didn't have respiratory distress. The cause death can't be predicted at this age. It can due to any cause which need have produced any symptoms at that time or he might not have been in a position to express his complaints.
Definitely one tab of Diazepam is not the cause. The Dr may not sign as he has not seen the patient. The cause death can be written as OLD AGE – the old patients can die due to not explainable reason.
Best wishes
