Had D And C Procedure. Taking Birth Control. When Can I Get Pregnant Again?
Hi, I had a d&c yesterday. I am considering taking birth control pills until my doctor says it is ok to get pregnant again. She wants us to wait 3 months. Why does she want us to wait 3 months? Will taking birth control effect my chances of getting pregnant again? Does it stop my endometrium from growing back healthy?
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.
It is a good idea to wait for the uterus to heal for at least 2 cycles before trying to get pregnant again. This recommendation is typical for all patients. Birth control pills will not affect your ability to get pregnant after 3 months. Your chances of conception during each month of trying is about 15% (it is normal to take up to a year to get pregnant). The birth control pill does not prevent normal healing of the endometrium. If you do not want to take the pill, then don't take it, but you definitely should use condoms for the recommended time frame.
I hope that this helps. Good luck and thank you for visiting.
