I was born with Pectus Excavatum , and underwent the Nuss Procedure 2 years ago (I was 23 years old). During the procedure, both a metal rod and a metal plate were placed inside my chest . To be a bit more specific, the metal plate lies in the very center of my chest, between my breasts. The rod was removed six months later, but the metal plate was untouched, in fact I was told that it will remain in my chest forever. Initially I had no issues with that, but once I healed from the surgery and was able to sleep on my sides again, I noticed I would have bad chest pains (slightly to the left of where the plate is) when I would sleep on my left side; for six months the pain only occurred when I would lie on my left side, never the right. Then after that six months I began to also have the pain when I would lie on my right side (slightly to the right of where the plate is). So, for the last year and a half I have not been able to sleep on either side without waking up in pain. I would like to know if this is normal or abnormal.
