Had A Rhinoplasty. Pain In The Eye Since Woke Up From The Anesthesia. White Speck In The Middle Of The Eye. Eye Infection?
I had rhinoplasty a week ago and when I woke up from the anesthesia my right eye hurt so much. It is a week later and my eye is extremely sensitive to light and I have a white speck in the middle of my eye (I m dictating this to my sister who is typing it for me). Are eye infections common after this cosmetic procedure?
An eye infection is not really common after a rhinoplasty. Subconjuntival bleeding is but goes away in due course During surgical procedures that require general anaesthesia a common problem that seems to occur is something called exposure keratitis due to incomplete closure of the eyelidsas a result of which the epithelium is damaged. A corneal ulceration may also be seen if the eye isreacts to the solution used for cleaning prior to surgery of if the eye is accidentally rubbed. This happens often in the central zone which is unprotected by the eyelids. Infection is not as common primarily however the eye maybe secondarily infected. If this is the case, antibiotic eye drops maybe started to tackle infection. Exposure keratitis is treated with lubricating eye drops in a high frequency and a lubricating eye ointment at bedtime which is when the epithelium is given a chance to heal. If there is certainly no infection , taping the eye shut for a day helps the healing process. Once the epithelium has healed the glare and pain subsides.Full recovery generally occurs.
