Had Bimalleolar Fracture And Mobility Of Ankle Is Reduced. What Could Be The Reason For Having Severe Pain?
Hi Doctor... (need Orthopedic consultation) 3 years ago, i had bimalleolar fracture. I got it operated with a plate and screws. 1 yr later i got it removed aswell. But since the fracture, mobility of my ankle(Plantarflexion) is reduced (can't lift the ankle towards tibia). And now i'm gettin severe pain even to walk. It worsens when the climate is colder and i get pain through out the day if i rest my ankle in the mornings. What is the cause of this? Thanks.
I am so sorry to hear about the fractures that you experienced.
From the information you have provided, I am afraid you have developed a post fracture joint damage. the decreased mobility and rage of motion associated with pains is quite suggestive of this. Bimalleolar fractures often involve the articulations and make the chances of joint involved complications more likely.
my suggestion is that you get consulted by the surgeon who operated upon the fracture or at least see and orthopedic surgeon. In the mean time, try for pain medications to control your symptoms as well avoid over using the jint. This would be of great help.
Depending on the findings when you see the orthopedist, a personalised management plan to help address the pain and improve movement of the joint would be established.
I hope that you find this helpful. I wish you well and the best of outcomes. Feel free to request for more information if need be. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD
