Had Circulation Stroke. Angiography Shows Atherosclerotic Lesion. Stenting Required?
hello sir.. im dr. divsheen...my father had a recent posterior circulation stroke...ct angiography showed atherosclerotic lesion in left vertebral artery in V4 intracranial part....does he require to undergo angiography and stenting of thre artery or can he remain on conservative m/g with ecosprin 75mg and clopidogrel 75mg lifelong??? what are the chances of reoccuring episodes of TIAS and stroke in both managements??
Hi Dr Divsheen,
Thanks for writing in.
I am a qualified and certified cardiologist.
I read your mail with diligence.
Chances of TIAs and stroke though not eliminated altogether incidence is far less after proper angioplasty and implantation of a stent. In any case Clopidogrel+ Aspirin, will have to be continued for quite some time in both form of therapies. If I were you I would choose the invasive mode of treatment for it is painless and in expert hands complications are far less than what can potentially occur if the lesion is left alone. Good Luck.
With Best Wishes.
