Had Cut In Forehead, Stitched, Have Swollen Eyes, Dark Circles Around Eyes. Normal?
hi doc, i hit my forehead and got a cut that needed 3 stitches, the next morning i woke up and both my eyes were swollen for about a week, the swelling has since gone down but i have dark circles under my eyes.is this normal-the swelling and what causes it?since i fell at night and was stitched up the next day around 5 and there was no swelling then.
It is common for swelling around the eyes following a head injury as the peri-orbital region is made of spongy tissue which can retain fluid more than other areas. I don't think it should be a matter of worry and you can certainly wait for the swelling to subside gradually over 1-2 weeks. The dark circles are due to breakdown of the blood products and can have a purplish or greenish hue. It will disappear gradually over the next few days.
