Had Foot Fracture. Tingling Sensation, Swelling. How To Speed Up Recovery?

Hello I am Lawrence, I got a foot fracture on my 5th metatarsal and it was cemented for 4 weeks. I am living here in Thailand. The doctor made x-rays every two weeks then decided to remove the cast after 4 weeks. He said that I cannot use my right foot with full weight until the 6th week. My foot still cannot stand on its own and its muscles are still sleeping and I feel tingling sensation when I am adding weight on my toes. From time to time my foot is still swollen but when I raised for an half an hour, the swelling goes away. Do you have any tips that will speed up my recovery. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

All your symptoms are considered to be Normal or physiological, which occur during the process of healing in a fractured bone.

Regular and gradual stretching exercises involving the ankle joint, movement of all the toes are helpful in speeding up of your recovery.

Use of compression stockings will aid in lessening the swelling of foot. Take regular calcium supplements till the fracture unites.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
