Had Hernia Repair With Mesh, Feeling Tired, Gaining Weight, Swelling, Itching, Mesh Area Is Red. Help?
In sept 2012 I had a hernia repair. It was done with mesh. In 2013 I began feeling tire. Gaining weight, swelling not feeling well. Then my body began to itch. I began to break out with a severe rash. The area where the mesh was placed became very red. I had a biopic done. It show something from the inside or something I putting on. I reminded the doctor of the same problem I had after a hydialhernia surgery. My skin broke out & became very sensitive. I'm having the patch test done Monday 21st. I'm in very severe pain. It is a continue sting & burning.
The possibilities to be considered in you are: 1. Displacement of the mesh which can cause damage to local structures leading to inflammation and infection. 2. Allergy due to material used in the mesh.
The first condition is most likely, you may get ultrasound scan or CT scan abdomen done to look for any mesh displacement and take further treatment. The patch test is also necessary to be done. You must take a course of antibiotics.
Hope this helps
