Had Legionnaires, Couldn T Walk, Talk, Write, No Control Of Fine Coordination, Headaches, Blackness With Tremors. Cerebellum Damaged

I caught legionnaires in 2009, I couldn t walk, talk, write and I have no control of fine coordination, most of all I have severe headaches and blackness sometimes with tremors. the dr. said my cerebellum was damaged due to toxins left in it from the legionella s bacteria and if it hadn t got better by now there was nothing to be done. I have tried many meds, went to many drs and I still can t talk good or write and have severe headaches and tremors. if I take hydrocodone it relieves it a little but the drs now say there is abuse with hydrocodone. I am on a limited income, gets no Medicaid, has been a RN for 40 years, treated sickle cell pts. with dilaudid. pain pumps what can I do. The neurosurgeon said take pain med, be safe due to my restricted mobility, get a hooveround but I moved to Miss. and they talk about going to a pain dr which I can t afford and most of them have problems. Whai can I do for pain?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.

It is unfortunate that you have severe recurrent pain, as well as limited mobility, moreover, you have no insurance to cover the medical costs.

I agree that the cerebellar damage may not completely recover, as most of this damage would be irreversible. However, in some cases, spontaneous improvement may occur. Doing physiotherapy and regular exercises would help.

Regarding pain, you have to be on one of the medications that suit you, and safe. Please discuss with your doctor regarding them, as you need to be on long term pain medications.
I hope it helps. Please get back if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
