Hi thanks. First off I had severe back pain that I was told fibromyalgia! Then upon MRI showed 3 discs.(l5,s1)9mm compress nerve by at least 25%. The other 2 were left at 5mm(l3-4,l3-5).so bedridden months lost job, car accident recently showing sprain neck n exasperated surgery area. After much convincing I finally have MRI w dye this week. Only thing is mt thoracic area is I'd constant pain. Not nerve shooting pain but sore n chronic and the s1 is hurting bad. I try to move about but can't stand having to take norcos(6a day) doesn't touch the pain. Of course depression follows. I guess I want to know is why would dr order c and L but not t?

Dear friend,

I am Dr. (Col) R Karanwal, M.D. (Internal Medicine), Consultant Physician, for your assistance.

Thanks for reposing your faith in me and post your query on this website. I fully appreciate your concerns.

1. Firstly, you have not mentioned which part of thorax do you have pain. Perhaps, the thorax pain may be due to blunt injury to the rib-cage during car accident. Also, it is possible that neurological examination did not indicate involvement of nerves supplying thorax area. Needless MRIs add to additional exposure to harmful radioactive radiation.

2. From the description, you have multiple disc herniation which are compressing nerves.

3. If I were your treating doctor, I would have tried neuralgesics (such as anti-epileptics) which- in increased dosage- would have reduced your nerve pains significantly.

Please feel free to revert back to me in case of further clarifications, if any.

I am sure that you will benefit from the advice.

May I assure you that I am always available for your assistance. My endeavor would always be to give you a sound medical advice, to the best of my knowledge and vast experience.

HAVE A NICE DAY AND A SPEEDY RECOVERY.

Fond Regards,

Dr.(Col) R Karanwal
