Had Sinus Infection With Drainage In Throat And Congestion. What Does These Symptoms Suggest?
Hello Dr. Grief, I had a cold end Nov.2013. Followed by sinus infection that caused considerable drainage in throat, causing much coughing and throat clearing. But throat clearing and coughing persist that benedryl does not stop. I still feel some congestion. What do these symptoms suggest and what can you suggest I do?
I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms. Persistent throat drainage and irritative may represent a sinus infection. You would need to get examined and treated for possible sinusitis. Benadryl helps with allergic symptoms and would not be of great help in this case. In the main time, you may want to try a cough syrup so as to loosen up the secretions and facilitate drainage. An ENT specialist would be the ideal person to contact but if that proves difficult, start with a primary care physician.
I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for patronizing our services and please do feel free to ask for follow up clarifications and information if need be. I wish you the best of health. Dr. Ditah, MD.
