Had Surgery For Thyroid Problem. Having Problems With Vision, Puffy Eyes. Smoker. Advice?

Good afternoon. And I have thyroid eye disease for more than 9 years. This was diagnosed in my country. I had thyroid in my throat, and had an operation to remove It. But since then, somehow effected my eyes very badly. years past by.. I was smoking.. Which I didn't knew that could make my thyroid eye disease worse. I stop smoking when I got pregnant and that was 9 months ago . It seems like my eyes are little bit better. My eye sight at the moment is good too. But one thing, which makes me feel very unconfident and uncomfortable is that I have puffiness around my both eyes,it feels like my eyes filled with water and even worse. What do I have to do to reduce puffiness around my eyes ?? THANK YOU

Hi

We would be able to answer you question only if we know what type of thyroid problem you were suffering from and what surgery you have undergone.

Hyperthyroidism may be associated with a condition of eyes known as Grave's opthalmopathy. On the other hand Hypothyroidism can cause a little swelling and puffiness around the eyes. I would advice you to first get done a current thyroid hormone profile ASAP.

Regards.
Dr. Om Lakhani.
