Had Surgery In Leg. Got Fiberglass Cast. Toes Turn Purple Due To Swelling. Normal?

Hi Doctor, I had surgery on my right leg on April 10, 2013. I just got a fiberglass cast put on. With elevation my leg is doing fine but when I get up my toes turn purple because of the swelling. Is this ok? I need to get up and move around because I also have small pulmonary emboli and I am on Warfarin for this. Can you help me?

Hello,
Welcome at HCM.

I have read complete details of your question.

The abnormal colour at your toes after application of fiberglass cast is not a normal finding. This shows that most probably there may be compression of a vessel which is supplying to toe .This needs attention from your orthopedic doctor without delay.
If needed your doctor may remove this cast & reply an other one.

Hope this all will help you.

With best wishes.
