More information is required to pinpoint the cause. Problems may or may not be related to
thyroid surgery, depending on the onset of your facial problems.
If facial problems started in the past 1-2 weeks, it can be due to inflammation of
Facial nerve which supplies the affected facial area/muscles. Short course of high-dose
steroids + anti-viral drug will cure it.
If it is an old-standing problem, problems can be due to
injury to the facial nerve during thyroid surgery; or, a brain/brain-stem (the upper part of
spinal cord which joins the brain) lesion.
MRI of brain +
brainstem is required to see for a lesion, if any.
