Had Tooth Filing, Bite, Chew, Cold Water Caused Pain. Took Azithromycin, tooth Pulled. Take Clindamycin, Stop Azithromycin?
Had a tooth filing replace for a bigger filing. The original has fallen off 3 times. Another dentist replace it with a bigger filing, went back to the doctor in three days because I couldn't bite, chew and cold water caused pain. Now he said I need a root canal or getting it removed. Dr. gave me azithromycin for 5 days and said I have a choice of root canal or getting it pulled out. so I had the tooth pulled. Question should I take the clindamycin hcl and stop the azithromycin?
I have gone through your query regarding a carious tooth where filling was not successful and with your consent doctor had extracted that particular tooth.
Now you are in doubt that what antibiotic should you take. Here I would like to tell you that selection of antibiotic depends on the infecting organism and for which the affecting organism is highly sensitive.
So if your doctor had initially work out for this , than antibiotic should be chosen according to the report , otherwise till the wound is healing you may take antibiotic having coverage over both gram positive and gram negative bacteria along with anaerobic coverage also.
This all now depends on clinical finding of wound.
Regards.
