Had Tooth Removed. Having Pain. Had To Cut Gum To Remove Tooth. Cleaning With Salt Water. Suggest

I had a tooth out last Wednesday . It wasn't easy to get out and came out in 4 so my gum had to be cut. I am in agony now, rinsing with salt water as recommended. I am very frightened of the dentist and have read about dry socket. I had to have a sedation as I get distressed. What should I do and how do they clean the area without pain? Thxs

Dont worry. its not necessary that you will develop dry socket after extraction. just continue with your medication as prescribed by the dentist and keep your socket area clean with warm saline rinse. there will be no pain on cleaning the area.

As you have undergone extraction, continue warm saline rinses 4-5 times a day for a week.
Use an antiseptic mouthwash ex- betadine gargles, chlorhexidine mouth wash.
Take nutritious diet. Follow your antibiotic prescription.
Take multivitamin capsules for enhanced and rapid healing.
Maintain oral hygiene and don't worry about dry socket.

Welcome to forum. As per your query, you still have no complaint after two days of extraction. When your extraction needed incision on your gum, that means you mostly have a suture given over your extracted socket. There is no need to get frightened unnecessarily. Dry socket occurs to a very few patients after extractions. Keep you mouth clean by washing your mouth frequently, especially after eating using clean water. Salt water has no extra advantages. Do not try to clean the area by yourself using any object. Continue medicines given by your dentist, keep your mouth clean of food debris by washing frequently, take rest. AND DO NOT GET FRIGHTENED OF DENTISTS. Get well soon.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

please do not get worried.

dry socket occurs, only when the clot responsible for healing gets dislodged.

you must take utmost care not to dislodge the clot.In your case the clot is secured by stitches, so nothing to worry about.

Just do very very gentle warm saline rinses, so that no food debris sit in the healing socket.

It is only then, dry socket is caused when infection occurs in the socket.

Therefore please follow post extraction instructions religiously and do not be worried .you will be fine soon.for further query let us know.

Thanks.

Take care.
